MILLING/PAVING

The process of milling and paving is to remove the top layer of existing asphalt (to a specified depth) with an asphalt mill, while preserving the healthy bottom layer(s), then followed by paving on top of the milled surface.

Milling pavement is a process used to remove a layer of old or damaged asphalt or concrete pavement from a road, parking lot, or other paved surface. This is typically done using a large machine called a milling machine or cold planer, which grinds the pavement down to a specific depth.

During the milling process, the machine uses a rotating drum with sharp teeth or cutting bits to break up the pavement and remove it in small pieces. The depth of the milling can vary depending on the condition of the pavement and the intended use of the road or parking lot.

Milling pavement is often done before resurfacing or repaving a road or parking lot to ensure a smooth, level surface for the new asphalt or concrete. It can also be used to correct irregularities in the pavement surface, such as bumps, cracks, or ruts, which can cause safety hazards for drivers and pedestrians.

Overall, milling pavement is an important step in maintaining and improving the quality and safety of paved surfaces, and helps to extend their lifespan.

Paving refers to the process of laying a surface of asphalt, concrete, bricks, stones, or other materials to create a durable and stable surface for vehicles and pedestrians to travel on. Paving is commonly used for constructing roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and other outdoor surfaces.

The process of paving typically involves several steps. First, the surface must be prepared by clearing the area of any obstacles, debris, or vegetation. The underlying soil may also need to be graded or compacted to ensure a stable base for the pavement.

Next, the paving material is mixed and transported to the site, where it is spread and leveled using specialized equipment such as pavers, rollers, and compactors. The paving material is then allowed to cure or dry, which can take several hours or days depending on the material and environmental conditions.

After the pavement has cured, any necessary markings or striping can be added, such as painted lines or symbols to indicate parking spaces or crosswalks.

Paving is an important aspect of infrastructure development, as it provides safe and reliable transportation surfaces for people and goods. Properly installed and maintained pavement can last for many years, reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacement.
